trying to download and get through more piles of research articles has me completely overwhelmed. Folding that into the other work i already was planning to do, it's suddenly seeming to be too much.
possibly because it's going to take for-ever to go through and check all of the song lyrics i downloaded for 1999-2011. hours have gone by and i've gotten 70 songs from 1999 done. speaking of which, there's some special songs from 1999.
somehow i got sucked into looking up difference conferences while searching for literature today. and somehow, that sucked 2 hours out of the day. on the plus side i have a new database for myself regarding conferences and have found 2 that i'd really like to present at in 2012. Gotta think about how to make that happen (as if i didn't have other things to focus on).

first summer skate
28 june
went for a skate for the first time since the last marathon (hard to believe it's somehow been longer than a month) and it was actually a nice summer day in edinburgh. felt good. i'm still going to have to watch my hip, but it was nice to skate again. i didn't check my gps so that died about 1.2 miles into the skate. I have to guess i went 10 miles, but i'll have to do the 5 laps with a working gps to check that.
was a good start to the day, but then i started feeling worse later. apparently now that it's nice, i have a cold. not really sure about that, but no good.

holes to fill
so clearly i managed to get the 'highlight reel' overview of the previous 5 months done tonight, but i left post-spaces to go in depth of the important events (and for pictures of course). that's a much larger task, but at least the framework is there. and eventually it'll all get filled in.
yay for coming back to the blog.

monday in scotland
20 june.
alison went into town while i went to school in the morning. she picked me up on campus and then we went to loch leven castle.
following that we went to the airport, where she had to repack her bag and ditch weight. and have a delicious sandwich and soup from eat. fun times.

ne england day 2
Had the traditional full northumbrian breakfast at the b&b. their version has kippers. but considering kippers are fish, i dont recall getting them with it. anyway what we had was delicious.
We started our day at the Alnwick Castle. http://www.alnwickcastle.com/
This castle was cool because the family still lives in it and you can tell they do. There's family photographs and beanbag chairs in the library which was the first clue. Then you notice the stuffed dogs - which was a bit weird.
Also famous for being the backdrop to where harry potter learns to fly, the castle was nice to walk around.
After visiting the castle, we started the drive north to go to Lindisfarne. Passed a nice looking castled on the coast along the way.
The Holy Island of Lindisfarne (http://www.lindisfarne.org.uk/) is across a road which gets covered creating its island status. We managed to get there in time to visit the priory. There's also a winery but visiting that was basically like just going to a gift shop--not really a tasting. Because of the tide time (and the suddent onset of rain), we didn't stay on the island too long.
We did stop on the mainland side to walk along the edge for a bit.
Then we continued our drive north.
We stopped at the England/ Scotland border to take some pictures and then continued into Edinburgh.
Rounded off the evening with a trip to Sainsbury's, dinner, and alison attempting to repack her ridiculous amount of luggage components.
