eek, i'm behind

i guess it's about time for another week in review type of catch up. but i have to write lots more on my chapter and so i'll have to come back.

i do have some 7000 words in my chapter though. that's exciting. still not feeling half done, but really trying. have read lots on environmental psych and social psych in the last few days. i like environmental a lot as i read more. and i was talking to brittany about it and we were saying how my perspective is super niche in that it takes from EP, SP, PoM, SAPOM, and whatever. so she was joking about me finding a place at conferences. which i suppose is funny but true. and then she sent me this comic, which is funny regardless of what field i'm in : http://www.phdcomics.com/comics/archive.php?comicid=1335

this past weekend was the TFA 20 year summit. sadly i wasn't in attendance. and i'll write more about the summit, but here's an article from the post that i read yesterday http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2011/02/14/AR2011021404498.html.

liberton primary nature walk

tuesday
8 february.

chaperoned a field trip today.
in efforts to start working with active schools. although this wasnt a school that i'd be working with.

was on the other side of town which i hadnt anticipated for, but was able to catch the bus there and then walked the long, but nice, walk home.

the kids were going to the nearby park/hill/nature center to do different activities. the group i was with was doing orienteering. i'm glad it wasn't the weather of yesterday (intense rain that became a bit of snow) but it was cold.

the place was really nice. i'll have to go back to hike it in the spring not with kids and enjoy nature. and climb the hill which my group today didn't do.

the wheel

monday
7 february.

did slightly better perhaps with throwing pottery on the wheel. although i'm not doing a good enough job centering so that's what i need to work on.
made two pieces.

sadly the bowl i did last time caved in, but i decided to fire it anyways. why not. i'm not limited by the amount of clay, so i may as well try to make as many things as i can in my opinion.
and it's nice trying to learn a new skill.

went from there home to quickly eat a lunch and then to campus to meet with the press release lady.
she wasn't impressed.
couldn't really 'find a story'
but the problem is i need her to so that i can get participants.
i really just want to start. it's been so long.

that was frustrating and didn't really put me in a motivated mood to work on my writing.
i did some work and then went to the gym.

went to fake zumba class where there was a substitute. she was wearing a zumba top, except that didnt really make it more of a zumba thing. more aerobics. which really is fine, it's just not quite zumba. but i think it was a better aerobic workout.

from there i went to orchestra rehearsal. was a good rehearsal. chatted with charlie another oboist during the break. he seemed to be concerned with reeds. and buying good ones. he was confused that i used to make mine. the ones here are quite different than what i'm used to. but i didnt think making reeds would have been the questionable thing.

long day of activities. wish the press release thing would have been more positive ( and i havent heard back from the lady) because i need the motivation to finish this chapter. ugh.

superbowl

sunday
6 february.

brittany and i went to the hard rock cafe for the superbowl.
were able to go without having to pay the entrance fee which was a plus compared to other pubs.
also it was going to an american place to watch an american sport.
it seemed overly american, but the nachos were good.
brittany's friend who was to join us was super late and then left after the half time show so she wasn't there that long.

super late evening.
but yay packers for winning.
and i'm glad we went out to watch the game.

5 february

saturday.
12- close monkey bizness shift.
reception all day.
crazy busy reception.
had gareth working with us on reception who hadn't before.
upon returning from my break he hugged me and told me he never wanted to do that job again.
yup, exactly.
it's terrible on the weekends.

had to fight to get my second break.
but luckily gareth was on my side and i got it.
had a nice hot chocolate during it as well.

and we managed to close fairly quickly for a change.

but it really doesn't make for an exciting story of a day.

a friday 9-5

friday
4 february.

that's like a regular working shift. gotta say, it wasn't too bad. i was on reception for the entire day by myself. but it wasn't weekend crazy and i didn't have to close.

plus then becky and i went to nikki's and then we went out. went to the chanter and sleepy brittany woke up to join us. met other monkey bizness people there but then there were conflicts. tried to continue on but found brittany's jacket had disappeared from the table. luckily for some unknown reason kal had grabbed it so then it became a mission to meet them at their next pub stop. but luckily we were able to retrieve her jacket. that was at vodka revolution which actually had a dj playing decent music. don't really like the place in general (expensive chain) but the dj was actually good. plan was then to meet back up with becky and people but she was on her way home. we tried to go a few other places but didn't want to pay to go in so ended up getting pizza and going home.

it was still nice to be out for the evening though.

article draft v3

wednesday
2 february.

lower back still hurts so i didnt go to campus.
but did accomplish creating draft version 3 of my article to submit with david.
editing that took a long time and i didn't even cut out as many words as needed.
but i did cut down the references and fix the graphs and things
so hopefully it's better.

i sent it back to david so we'll see what he says.
i am glad i got that draft done though because i kind of needed that to be accomplished in order to tackle my other HUGE current writing project.

ugh. a lot of writing to do. and i definitely only got a little bit of it done today.

glasgow trip

tuesday
1 february.

had to go get fingerprinted for my visa application, which took me to glasgow. took the train from haymarket which only took about 45 minutes. walked around and saw a neat exhibit at the modern art gallery.

and then took their wee little metro (one circle loop) to go to the UKBA place. Which of course is in some random weird building. but the people were super nice and chatting with them and convincing security i'm not from cowboy country took longer than the fingerprinting bit. but after that then i had to sit and wait for 30 minutes to then be told i could go. so hopefully that's a positive sign.

then i rode the little metro back to the main little downtown bit and went shopping. and followed a little walk through town.

and then walked to the cathedral and to the necropolis.

and saw the oldest tenement and stuff.

caught the train back.

was a nice day trip. had a smoothie and sandwich for lunch for only 3 pounds 50. and that was good.

then i had to go to tynecastle high school for a meeting and then from that to monkey bizness for a looong staff meeting filled with fire drills and climbing wall practice. angela and i raced. sadly my waterproof shoes are not good climbing shoes. but i finally actually got to float down on with the harness.

and once the meeting was finally over, a bunch of us had a few drinks at the pub.
