question about the castle

this morning i read an email i got from brandi. she asked me if i had been to the castle and thought perhaps i should post it on my blog.

What's super awesome about where Brittany and I live is that we really are right in the city centre. Walk about four blocks and you'll see our neighbor, the edinburgh castle. (for example, see first photo from the 11 October post - that's 5 blocks from our flat; you'll see the castle in the distance there.)
It's a pretty fantastic sight. it changes in different sunlight and also looks pretty sweet at night. (as do the other big, old buildings/statues/monuments/churches of the city).

It's something that i really enjoy about living here - great scenery while walking around town.

anyway, to answer brandi - and for anyone who missed it from the previous blog - I have been to the castle. It's great. Lots of buildings to see and great tours by people in kilts. Also they still fire the 1 oclock cannon which was used by boats to mark time. (Sadly, I witnessed the cannon firing; but while i attempted to film it, it didn't work.)

So for the photos from that trip (it was when i was here to look at the school and things, see this post from before: 26 May.

(The other three days of the edinburgh portion of that trip are located here: 27 May and 28 May and 29 May.)

So great, that's an answer to whether I've been to the castle.

Oh one of my favorite things (and i think brittany's too) about when we visited the castle was when we walked into the military history building's exhibit. Not because either of us were that excited about the exhibit (we figured we should see it since we were there), but because almost immediately we found ourselves singing along to the piped-over-the-loudspeakers bagpipe music. Now, even though we had only been in edinburgh for the morning, we had already discovered that all of the town stores play bagpipe music - fine and dandy - but it all seems a bit the same, and not usually one to sing along to. Anyway, we found ourselves singing along to the bagpipe version of the theme from Jurassic Park. No lie. we have audio proof.
Best Bagpipe Music Ever.
